Harbour Bridge from The East Wind

Being Australian myself I fell in love with this image even more than I normally do with Unky's images! The Harbour Bridge comes with two versions. This version I have coloured AND one with fireworks! I will admit, as much as I LOVE the scene with fireworks, I haven't coloured it as I had an idea strike me straight away. I wanted a sunset! For this image, I have used Distress Ink pads, watercolour paint and Prismacolour pencils.

I have been asked how I have created my sunset. In short, I used a water pen and my Distress Ink ink pads. I laid plain water in the background first to moisten the paper but careful not to go over areas I didn't want painted. Then I laid the colours in with the water brush making sure to gently blend them together without muddying the colours. I have promised to do a tutorial on how I have done it, so stay tuned for that!

My latest for The East Wind

I have been terrible at keeping you all updated with my projects for The East Wind! I guess that is the problem when I had been focusing my shares only in a large number of colouring and stamp groups on Facebook! I do sincerely apologize to those who follow me. I will endeavor to be much more regular with these amazing images!

My first card is using "Dear Santa" which was coloured with Copics.

'Marvelous Spatuletail'  coloured with Copics and the background done with Distress Inks.

Aurora 'Sharing Autumn' also coloured with Copics.

'Trapped' Coloured with Copics. This was my very first attempt at rainbow colouring!

'Aurora 'Siesta III'  also coloured with Copics.

Aurora 'Balloons in Copic. this was a really good image to practice transparency!

'Gastwown steamclock '  coloured with Prismacolours on heavy watercolour paper.

Want to know what is great about these last two images? they also come merged as one! You can find it HERE

WHEW! That was alot to take in I know! I wish you all a wonderful day/night.

Moonflower Design Team inspiration piece

Today I would like to share the beautiful Pisces Zodiac from Moonflower Digital stamps coloured with some non-traditional colours! I must admit, this is the first time I have coloured skin in anything other than traditional skin tones! I hope you like the different direction I took with this gorgeous image!

I have coloured her and the background using Copics. The clouds were done with my Molotow White paint pen and the pearls done with Liquid Pearl to give a little dimension. I also used Glossy Accents on the water ripples to add some shine, though it is hard to see in the photo.

I hope my card gives you all a little inspiration to try something out of your comfort zone.

Introducing Kili Tingatinga Art

Recently I was asked by another colourist if I would be interested in doing a colouring page for a friend of hers that owned a business here in Australia that helps with a charity. She sent me off to to check it and to get back to her. "Kili Tingatinga Art is a Melbourne-based business dedicated not only to bringing this unique painting style to Australia, but to helping the communities that create Tingatinga artwork, where poverty and hunger are everyday realities. Kili Tingatinga Art operates on fair-trade principles, buying original paintings directly from the artists, helping them support their families and communities." They have recently started selling Kili Kolours which are colouring pages. Some of the profits will be donated to an African charity (I haven't been told which one has been finalized, but it will either be Ndoto Afrika who help assist with sustainable development projects in rural and urban communities or Room to Read which is a non-profit organization for improving literacy and gender equality in education in the developing world.

So this is the image I was given to colour and boy did it take me ALOT longer than I had anticipated! As you know, I mostly colour people. And while colouring people usually scares most, I am the opposite! They now come easily to me so I was scared to colour this! Yes, really I was! I didn't know where to start and I didn't know how I wanted to colour it. Pictures usually "speak to me" and I colour the way I feel that it does. My youngest daughter watches an ABC cartoon called Tinga Tinga Tales so I knew that normally for that style, the colours are not what we expect them to be. But with this picture in front of me and an idea of how it "should" look, I was stumped. I finally decided that I couldn't colour it in any other way but my own and to me, this picture said I needed lots of green and bright colours. Now I couldn't do this in one sitting. In fact I had to do it in a handful with a break in between due to being ill and having the shakes from high amounts of Ventolin. But all up, there is approximately 12 hours of work in this A4 image! OMG I can only imagine how long it would take to colour this in it's A3 size that they are sold in! You certainly get your money's worth from them. I found this project quite a challenge for me due to it not being my regular style, but it was a great picture to loose myself in.

I hope you love my take on this and go check out the webpage mentioned above or visit their Facebook page.

Sherri Baldy's new fairies

Well my position on the design team for Sherri and her Besties was alot shorter than I had intended and wanted, but sometimes things don't always go to plan. It was my decision to part ways, but I am leaving on good terms with all of the fabulous girls on the team. they really are a talented group of ladies and I am honored I got to work with them.  Before I left I got to colour these gorgeous fairies that have just been released. For both of these cuties, I coloured the fairies and the house with Copics and completed the backgrounds using Distress Inks.

You can find this first digi HERE

And you can find this fairy HERE
And the house, HERE. This little house also comes with a version with some writing.

Moonflower Blog hop

It’s birthday time!!  Moonflower is a whole year old already and we’re blog hopping to celebrate!
It’s been an amazing year, with many incredible images drawn by Andreia, and brought to life by the very talented design team, and so we decided it would be fun to showcase some of them with a birthday blog hop.

Blogging is all about networking and sharing our love of crafts so we’d love you to play along, leave a little love on each blog you hop to and if you like what you see hit the ‘follow’ button, and we can follow you in return of course! The winners will be announced on the blogs so you don’t want to miss out as it could be you!

We are pleased to be sponsored by Donna Marie for this hop. She is an amazing colourist and has written a fabulous ebook with many hints and tips about colouring. One lucky hopper will win a copy of her book, plus 2 MoonFlower digi stamps of their choosing, and a 25% discount voucher for the store. Check out her Facebook page to see her amazing work.

In addition to the main prize, one lucky person who has left a comment will be selected from each blog included in the hop, and will win the image that the DT member has used.

You should have hopped to me from Jackie!

So, for my project I have used Contemplation Princess.

For the background, I have used Broken China and Faded Jeans distress Inks. I wanted to add extra dimension so used small paper flowers over the flowers in her hair along with Liquid Pearls for the pearls.

Copic colours used:
Skin: E000, E00, E11, E13, E21, R20 (blush and lips)
Hair: W2, W3, W5, W7 and W9

Exciting news!

As many of you would know by now, I have an eclectic taste in many things, and that includes the images I colour. When I first began colouring, I only coloured small cute images using rubber/clear stamps. I then progressed into more detail and let my style grow! For a long time I have focused on more realistic styles and when an order came through requiring a cute stamp, it through me back out of my comfort zone! Honestly I had lost touch with colouring less intricate or realistic styles! I lost my "cute". When I started out, I had bought some gorgeous stamps that I had planned on working my way up to...really I was a beginner of the very basic! These images scared me when I started because to me, they looked difficult! I bought them, and never coloured them! Well now I have the privilege of being on the design team of this very company whose images I was scared to colour!

That is right! I am proud to announce I am a new Design Team member for Sherri Baldy's My Besties! Today was the release day for images including those I coloured! This is the first Christmas Bestie project I made and you can find the stamp HERE

The second project and image can be found HERE

Tumbelina faery from Moonflower Digital Stamps

This month Moonflower Digital Stamps are having an Autumn theme challenge over on their Facebook group, so I thought I'd make an entry using Tumbelina faery (free file in group). I gave myself the extra challenge of doing her wings in ombre. I have never coloured anything in this style/blend and was worried I'd ruin my whole picture. I know, I know...I should always start with the area of most concern when in doubt...I just never do it. Anyway, she turned out pretty darn good I think! I have had a couple ladies ask for my colour combos, so instead of repeating myself, I thought I would share for all.

Copics used:

Skin: E000, E00. E11,E13, E21, R20
Hair: E.41, E43 and E44
Outfit: E31, E33, E35 and E37

New medium brag post!

I am SUPER excited to finally be able to share this with you guys!!! A couple of weeks ago I mentioned to friends that I'd finished my first proper try of using Prismacolour pencils. I seriously had only done two quick attempts with them and was hating these very expensive pencils! Really REALLY hating them! I couldn't understand why everyone loved them so much until I learnt I was using the wrong type of paper :/ lol oh the joys of teaching yourself a new medium and not researching it! Anyway THIS is the amazing piece I was talking about! There are 16 layers of colour in her skin alone! 16!!! lol little did I know I was making it so much harder for myself learning to colour with these pencils on black paper until other Design Team members told me! lol since when have I done anything the easy way anyway? This took me about 8 hours to colour but the end result was so worth it I think! She is getting framed to go in my lounge room. This image is today's new release from The East Wind and is called "Her Story". Please don't ask for my colour combos as I didn't note them down and was far too frustrated in the beginning to keep not...something I know I will regret when I next try!

"The Longing Princess"

This is my latest card made and it took me a lot longer than usual for the simple reason of cutting to an oval! I am a little bit of a perfectionist and although I used a template, hand cutting an oval just never looks neat enough to me! Once upon a time I had the Creative Memories cutting system which is brilliant. But I found I just didn't use circles and ovals so sold it at a quarter of the price I paid for it. Now I am kicking myself that I did! Several times since starting card making I've wished I still had it! Anyway, the reason it took so long is I had a set idea in mind for this image and not having a neat oval nor an oval mat or frame to use meant I had to scrap my idea and start again. That's when I decided the best way to cover my wonky oval was to make a frame of flowers! After debating with myself which patterned paper I was going to use, I picked out my flowers and went from there!

Since posting my card Facebook groups, I've had a few requests for my colour combs used. Instead of repeating myself, I'm sharing here. This stamp is called "The Longing Princess" and can be found at MoonFlower Digital Stamps.

Copics used:

Skin: E000, E00. E11,E13, E21, (R20 and R22 for lips and blush)
Hair: E,41, E43 and E44
Eyes: B93
Dress: G21, G94 and G99
Sleeve and neck frill:
E50, E51 and E53
Gold: Y17 and Y28
Vines: YG63 and YG67
Roses: R000, R00, R02 and E04

*Note: Her pearls were created using "Liquid Pearls" and I used cream chalk to colour the background.

And in case you are wondering what the gold threads are on the right side... The inside of my card.

It's all about the hair!

This month's challenge on The East Wind's Facebook page is "It's all about the hair! (any image with fun hair style or colours)". For this challenge, I used 'Lucy Loo 'Over the Rainbow'. I recycled a broken wooden beach themed frame for this. I glued it back together, painted it, added the "rivets" to match the armour and flowers to match her hair. I love this image and thought it one of a few perfect ones for the challenge!

Design team inspiration piece for The East Wind

I am blogging this piece uncensored! In my mind and eyes, the naked human body isn't something to be ashamed of, nor do I find it offensive. But I have censored my image in my posts with most of the groups I have shared with on Facebook, simply because a minority do find it so.

Let me introduce "The Wedgewood Rose". I fell in love with this image as soon as I saw it and knew I just HAD to colour her!

MiC July challenge entry

This month over at Make it Crafty they have a new challenge... Cas-challenge-shaker-cards! CAS is my style on a regular basis and I used to make lots of shaker boxers on my scrapbook in layouts when they were popular years ago! I knew what I wanted to do straight away for this challenge but boy I had forgotten the tricks I had to making shaker boxes! My first attempt was a miserable failure. My second attempt looked fantastic on its beautiful Prima flower paper and I had lovely flower sequins in multiple sizes and colours. It really looked gorgeous...until I put glitter in it which got stuck the the acetate so badly that you couldn't see all the pretty shaped sequins. So for my third attempt I stuck with heart sequins alone and changed the entire look of what I had planned! Maybe it's for the better, I don't know. But I love the final look anyway. Image is Jacinta sitting dreaming.
